TOPEKA, Kan. –
Naomi Cotero broke the Southeastern 5,000 meter indoor record and a heat later
Anahi Machuca would break it again to highlight Southeastern trip to the Washburn Open on Friday and Saturday in Topeka, Kan.

Cotero first set the new mark with a run of 19:44.64 before Machuca followed with a 19:35.13 to set the record over nine seconds.

Tatum Cross,
Calibre Keene and
Lauren Garza all ran under 20 minutes which would have been enough to set a new record in the event.

The distance medley relay team of
Ashlen Clem,
Sequoya McAdoo,
Ashlynn Barrett, and Machuca posted a 16
th place finish.
Â
Mia Stewart added a 17
th place finish in the long jump, falling just shy of her recently set school record with a jump of 5.38 meters.

The Storm also put one of its 4x400 teams in the top 20 as the foursome of McAdoo,
Naiomi Rochelle,
Madison Rowe, and Adaria Slay turned in a run of 4:07.04 to finish 19
th.

The meet featured 40 teams across every level of collegiate competition from DI to junior college,

Southeastern will be back on the track and back in Kansas Feb. 13 and 14 when it heads to Pittsburg, Kan., for the Gorilla Classic.
