DURANT, Okla. – Southeaastern is set to open the 2024-25 Indoor Track and Field season on Dec. 7 when it treks to Topeka, Kan., to compete in the Washburn Alumni Invitational on Saturday, with field events beginning at noon and running events set to fire off at 1:30 p.m.

"Our overall team goal this year is to Elevate Southeastern," said head coach Dr. Jerome Morgan. "And that's our team's hashtag this season, #ElevateSE25. We want to see more athletes at the National Championship, and we want to take Hardware home to SE."

"This group of athletes have been great to work with," he continued, "There have been challenges that we have overcome in different aspects of the program but, none the less, these challenges are faced by many schools and some have it worse than we do. We have a lot to be grateful for and we are extremely grateful for our Athletic Director Keith Baxter, he has done so much to improve our program and our student athlete experience."

The Savage Storm heads into its second official season of Indoor Track and Field competition and features a team that has increased in size from a total of 29 athletes that completed the outdoor season in spring of 2024 to 50 athletes from seven different states including Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Illinois, with Durant High school Standout and State Record holder Amira Woods set to join the roster in January.

The team also features six sets of siblings with sisters Chanelle & Chanesse Chandler, twins Katlen & Ashlen Clem, and Candacie & Caliyah Graham.

Southeastern concluded the 2024 outdoor track and field season with a fifth place finish at the GAC Championship May, securing four event championships and record 20 All-Conference performances.

Seven athletes achieved provisional qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships, including the 4x400m relay team with an impressive time of 3:47.18.

Macayla Needham would go on to become the first athlete to compete at the NCAA National Championship for the Savage Storm, securing a top-16 finish in the Shot-Put event.

Among those seven athletes with provisional marks, Madison Rowe returns having earned one of them in the 400 meter with a run of 55.46, while also being a part of the 4x400 meter relay squad that posted a 3:47.18.

SE returns seven athletes who picked up All-GAC honors in the outdoor championships in May, with Rowe earning a pair in the 400 meter and 400-meter hurdles, as did Jayda Williams who was part of the 4x100 meter relay and placed in the long jump.

Kaitlyn Cedillo, Kendal Fellegy, Ashton Carter, Kenzli Warden, and Samantha Wallis each earned all GAC honors and will return to the track in 2024-25.

After opening the outdoor season on Dec. 7, the Storm will have just over a month between events until it returns to the track for the Owen Hewett Invitational in Normal, Okla, hosted by Oklahoma.

SE will follow with four more indoor meets before heading to Normal again for the first-ever Great American Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 21-22.

The NCAA DII Indoor National Championships follow three weeks later in Indianapolis, Ind., March 13-15.
