SE Sets Seven School Records at Gorilla Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Southeastern posted seven new school records over the weekend at the ninth annual Gorilla Indoor Classic in its final tune-up before the announcement of NCAA Indoor Qualifiers.
 
On day one, the quartet of Makensi Greenwood, Kendal Fellegy, Kaitlyn Cedillo, and Alexis Longoria Shattered the Distance Medley school record by over 30 seconds, clocking in at 12:57.03 to better the previous record set last year of 13:29.65.
 
In the 60m preliminaries, Jayda Williams posted the fastest time clocking 7.98 to win her heat and finished 19th overall. Karissa Nixon was next with a personal best, placing third in her heat clocking 8.00s to finish 22nd overall.
 
In the 200m, Karissa Nixon was the fastest of the day clocking a school record and personal best of 26.11 to win her heat and 38th overall. Caylee Conley was next best placed finishing 3rd in her heat, stopping the clock at 26.42.
 
In the 400m, Conley won her heat in school record time stopping the clock at 59.51, becoming the first athlete to run under one minute in the two-lap indoor event. Amore Armstrong posted the next best finish with a time of 1:00.50 to finish 4th in her heat.
 
In the 800m event, Greenwood was yet again in record breaking form as she stopped the clock at 2:16.66 to better her previous school record set last month by nearly two seconds. Alexis Longoria followed by winning heat 1 in a time of 2:24.37, bettering her previous best set back in December by almost five seconds. Cedillo was also in the best form of her indoor career, stopping the clock at 2:24.78 also bettering her best set last February by nearly five seconds. Senior Arden Kesterson rounded out the event for Southeastern, also clocking a personal best time of 2:28.40, bettering the previous best set last year at the same meet.
 
In the final event of the night, the women's 4x400m. The quartet of Armstrong, Fellegy, Greenwood, and Conley won the heat in school-record time, clocking 3:58.57 to finish 12th overall. This quartet was the first team in program history to dip below four minutes in the event.
 
Macayla Needham was the first finalist of the day in the women's weight throw. She was able to toss the 20lb weight 16.69m (54'9") to finish 8th in the event. This distance was the second-best throw of her career and currently second on Southeastern's top 20. Samantha Wallis was the other competitor in the event, she finished 4th in her flight with a toss of 14.53m (47'8") and was 28th overall in the event.
 
In the long Jump and Triple jump events, Jayda Williams continued her record breaking form in both events. With a leap of 5.43m (17 '9.75") in the long jump event, she bettered the previous school record set by her last month by 15 cm to win her flight and finish 17th overall. In the triple jump event,  with a leap of 11.43m (37 '6") she placed 3rd in her flight, bettering the previous school record by 2 cm to finish 12th overall in the event.
 
Southeastern's Track and field will await the announcement of the list of qualifiers for the national indoor championship set for March 8-9th in Pittsburg, Kansas.
