Track, Football (1969-75)
Charles Gulley was a two-sport athlete at Southeastern, both running track and playing football between the years of 1969 and 1975.
While a two-sport athlete, Gulley will always be remembered as one of the greatest athletes to ever lace up running shoes for Southeastern.
His track career culminated with a stellar 1973 season in which earned NAIA All-American honors and was named Southeastern’s Male Athlete of the Year as well as the team Most Valuable Player honors for track.
That season he set the school record in the 100-yard dash with a 9.3 second run and added a 21.3 second mark in the 220-yard dash.
He also ran the anchor leg for the team’s 880-yard relay team and once scored 15 of Southeastern’s 44 points in a meet on his own.
He earned multiple “High Point” and “Outstanding Performer” honors throughout his track career. He took Outstanding Individual honors at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Conference track meet as a freshman following a 13.5 point performance. He would follow that with two more such honors at the OIC track meet to finish with three-straight Outstanding Individual titles.
He was also a difference maker on the football field where his speed often gave him opportunity to score on big plays.
Gulley graduated from Southeastern in 1975 and has since pursued a career in affiliate marketing and food service.
Gulley, throughout his years as an athlete and a businessman, excelled to a level that brings great honor to Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The University honored him with membership in the Southeastern Oklahoma State Athletics Hall of Fame on August 25, 2012.
